File Naming Conventions

Version Saver is not one of those programs that save data to obscure, encrypted or compressed archives.  We think an important aspect of a data backup strategy is that users should be able to retrieve their saved data easily, even if they have lost the original backup program.

Version Saver saves its data in a simple directory tree, as described in the previous topic. The backed up files have the same name as their original, plus "_VS_" plus a number

e.g.

To aid identification of the most up to date version of any file, this is named with the added word LATEST

e.g. tax_return_VS_2_LATEST.doc

Warning: There is no problem about opening Version Saver's stored files for manual viewing and restoring.

However please do not edit, rename or delete any of these files, which could severly prejudice Version Savers ability to save and preserve versions reliably.
